FlyAway, drive-away and tracking satcom antennas built in Asheville

About AvL Technologies

AvL Technologies, Inc. designs and manufactures satellite communications antennas and positioners for military communications, broadcast and satellite news gathering, mobile broadband and communications with satellites in all orbits. Jim Oliver founded the company in Asheville, North Carolina, in 1994 after being asked to build a lightweight positioner for an ERA Technology 1.5 m reflector for BAF Communications; built with aircraft-grade steel cables, the design was rigid and free of backlash and became the basis for several antenna and positioner families. Jim Oliver led the company for nearly 30 years before appointing David Bowne as president and chief operating officer, and named AvL after his home community of Asheville, where the campus comprises two buildings with 110,000 square feet of manufacturing space, test docks, research and development facilities and a nearby test range.
