About Aveo

Aveo makes an airside driving simulator for airports. The Aveo Driving Simulator trains airside drivers on a digital copy of their own airport, from the apron to taxiways and runways. Airports use it to train drivers more safely and at a lower cost.

The simulator includes an accurate model of signs, lighting and infrastructure. Missions are based on real airside incidents, so drivers can practise hotspots. Weather effects include rain, fog, wind, snow, low sun, thunderstorms and night driving.

Apron drivers are the largest group, mostly ramp staff from ground handlers. They can be trained in numbers with scripted scenarios focused on safe distances around aircraft. Taxiway and runway drivers are mostly airport staff. Their training is one to one and covers stopping at lit stop bars and making radio calls to air traffic control.

Tools track and report each driver's performance. Results can be recorded in the airport's learning management system, and the simulator can integrate with any LMS on the market. A supervisor station lets an instructor follow several trainees at once.

Sydney Airport built a driving centre around seven Aveo simulator workstations. Figures from Sydney Airport show 559 drivers completed training there. Of those who used the simulator, 4.1% had an aircraft related infringement within three months, compared with 25.3% of drivers who did not.

Airports shown on the site include Sydney, Leeds Bradford, Heathrow, London Gatwick, Changi Singapore, Keflavík and Billund. VINCI Airports, which owns and manages 70 airports, is also shown. The company has seven airports live.

Airports can try a 6-month Proof of Concept. Aveo loans the simulator and supervisor workstations and models part of the airside at no cost, and customers pay only the monthly subscription. The company has a partnership with AIRDAT and is affiliated with Tern Systems, an air traffic management software firm with almost 30 years of deliveries.
