Approach Fast Stack

Approach Fast Stack is an avionics wiring company in Park Rapids, Minnesota that makes a modular hub and harness system for connecting avionics in general aviation aircraft. Its sister company Park Rapids Avionics, an avionics installation shop at the same location, has served the upper Midwest since early 2001 and is a dealer for Garmin, PS Engineering, Universal and other avionics makers. The two companies share management: Tom Hass is CEO of Park Rapids Avionics and Tim Hass is CEO of Approach Fast Stack.

• Pro-X Hub: for IFR panels built around an electronic flight information system (EFIS) that sends and receives data, holding FAA-PMA approval according to the site.
• Pro Hub: for IFR configured instrument panels, compatible with most NAV, GPS and COM units, audio panels, intercoms, moving map displays and VOR indicators.
• Ready built cables for the majority of avionics on the market, so units plug into the hub rather than being wired point to point.
• Complete avionics suites and new instrument panels when ordered together with Park Rapids Avionics, which can supply the equipment at distributor prices.

How the harnesses are built

The company says its design and build teams have three decades of experience and build each harness in a climate controlled facility from mil-spec wire, connectors and contacts. Harnesses are made as close to plug and play as possible (some connectors are left off for routing through the airframe), labelled for their purpose, tested on a Cami Research CableEye tester and shipped with a schematic of all connections and a diagram of the installation. Customers include builders of experimental aircraft and owners retrofitting certified aircraft up to light corporate jets.

Testimonials on the site come from owners who credit the harness with a quick return to service after a panel upgrade. Because the hub and cables are pre-tested, an installer spends less time on point to point wiring and troubleshooting, and the supplied schematic becomes part of the aircraft's wiring documentation for future maintenance.
