Accelerated Aviation Instruction

Accelerated Aviation Instruction LLC is a flight school at Degner Regional Airport (KOWA) in Owatonna, in south central Minnesota. It runs short, full-time courses where one instructor and one aircraft are set aside for one student until the rating is done.

Courses

• Private Pilot: 21 day accelerated course, about 168 hours of training, with roughly 100 more hours of one-to-one ground instruction than similar programs
• Instrument Rating: 10 day course with about 80 hours of ground and flight training, 20 hours in a Redbird LD simulator and 15 to 20 hours in the aircraft
• Commercial Pilot: 7 day single engine course with up to 12 hours of aircraft time and about 56 hours of instruction
• Multi-Engine add-on: 3 day course in a Piper Apache or Geronimo
• Finish-up courses for students who started at another school
• Flex Flight: the same training at the student's own pace
• Zero to CFI Pro Pilot Program, with a Purdue Global partnership that can turn ratings into 40 or more college credits

All aircraft are IFR equipped. The school publishes its course fees, days and aircraft hours on its website.

Where they fly

Owatonna has an ILS and the Halfway VOR, both useful for instrument training. Minneapolis, Rochester, Mankato and Mason City are all within an hour's flight, so students see Class B, C and D airspace. Many students stay in local hotels or rentals and treat the course as a flight training trip.
