About American Tower
American Tower is a United States company that owns and runs wireless and broadcast communications infrastructure. It offers solutions and services to deploy and support wireless networks in 20 countries across four continents. Its largest operation is in the United States.
American Tower was founded in 1995. It is one of the largest global real estate investment trusts, known as REITs. It is also an independent owner, operator and developer of wireless and broadcast communications real estate. The company is on the Fortune 500, S&P 500 and Forbes Global 2000 lists.
Its services cover towers, rooftops and backup power. It also offers DAS, which stands for distributed antenna systems, along with Wi-Fi and private networks. For data, it runs edge data centers and regional data centers. In the United States, its CoreSite data centers are part of the business. A network operations center supports these services.
Customers come from many fields. They include mobile telecommunications, broadcast, cable companies, fiber backhaul, financial services, government and public safety, energy and utilities, and wireless internet service providers. The company also deals with landowners, building owners and rooftop owners who host or lease sites.
American Tower operates in the major markets of the Americas, Europe and Africa. In North America, it works in the United States and Canada. In Europe, it works in France, Germany and Spain. In Africa, it works in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda. In Latin America, it works in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paraguay and Peru.
The company says its shared infrastructure model helps cut the telecom industry's environmental impact. It uses renewable energy technology and advanced battery storage, and it reduces energy use where it can. This gives customers more stable power for their equipment. It also says demand is growing for distributed tower, data center and edge infrastructure as device connections and data use rise.
