About Alexandria Metal Finishers

Alexandria Metal Finishers is a metal finishing company in the United States. It offers electroplating, anodizing and related processes for aerospace and other industries. It has been in business since 1962.

The company began in 1962 in a small shop in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. It was started to meet the electroplating and anodizing needs of the space program. In 1965 it moved to a larger industrial space and began aerospace projects. Later it built a 45,000 square foot plating, anodizing and chemical finishing plant and moved to Lorton, Virginia.

The company offers more than 40 processes, including non-destructive testing. Precious metal plating covers seven gold options, 12 types of silver and two rhodium finishes. It plates hard materials such as beryllium copper, titanium, invar, kovar, magnesium and stainless steels. Aluminum anodizing includes hardcoat Type III up to 16 feet and Type II up to 20 feet, with black dye up to 16 feet. Other services are electroless nickel plating, electroplating, chemical films, electropolishing and passivation.

It serves aerospace, telecommunications, electronics, medical, packaging, defense and commercial customers. It says it takes on anodizing jobs that others cannot handle because of size or complexity. It keeps an in-house library of federal, aerospace, military and commercial standards.

Alexandria Metal Finishers is Nadcap accredited for aerospace quality systems and chemical processing. It is ISO 9001 certified, CMMC Level 1 compliant and ITAR and DDTC registered.

Over 60 years the company has worked on special projects. These include the Peacekeeper program, the Titan missile, the Stinger missile, the International Space Station, a NASA wind tunnel, the Washington Monument and the Charters of Freedom at the National Archives. It hard anodized large mandrels for Titan missiles. It gold plated parts for the space station in 1996 and again in 2017.
