Aechelon Technology
Synthetic reality image generation and databases for military flight simulation

About Aechelon Technology
Aechelon Technology provides a synthetic reality and simulation platform with high-fidelity visual and sensor simulation that prepares pilots, operators and autonomous systems for real-world missions. Its website is now hosted as part of Shield AI, the US defence technology company that builds AI pilots and autonomous aircraft, and the combined mission statement is to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Built on decades of development, Aechelon's technology recreates complex operational environments for mission-critical training and supports more than 1,200 US Department of War operational flight training systems and simulation programmes across the United States, NATO and allied nations.
Products
- PC-Nova image generators: real-time multi-spectral rendering at 4K and 8K resolution sustained at 240 Hz with ultra-low latency, modelling weather, airflow, atmospheric effects, turbulence and brownout with real-time computational fluid dynamics on compact multi-GPU systems built for classified deployments, using NVIDIA professional GPUs and Microsoft Windows
- Geo-specific 3D worldwide databases with a common terrain model that keeps visible, EO, IR, radar and night vision imagery synchronised across simulators, from global background terrain to high-detail areas of interest, with SkyBeam updates and customer overlays
- Flight simulation and training delivered through multi-channel domes, head-mounted displays with eye-limited mixed reality, mini-LED panels and light field displays, combining 8K imagery with synthetic EO/IR, radar and night vision
- Synthetic data generation for AI and machine learning model development, test and evaluation, sensor and environment simulation for autonomous systems and ISR, GPS-denied navigation using synthetic terrain, and networked training across distributed multi-domain simulators, plus the Nexus and Project Orbion product lines
Programmes
The site lists platforms and customers including the F-35 Lightning II, F-22 Raptor, F-15 Eagle, Eurofighter Typhoon, F-16 Fighting Falcon, B-1B Lancer, B-52 Stratofortress, KC-135 Stratotanker, C-5 Galaxy, P-8A Poseidon and MQ-4C Triton, with users ranging from the US Navy, Marine Corps, Army and Special Operations Command to the Royal Australian Air Force, Italian Navy, Royal Netherlands Air Force, Royal Saudi Naval Forces, and the Swiss rescue operator REGA with Reiser in Germany. A case study describes how the US Marine Corps used Aechelon's mixed and virtual reality training solutions, with image generators that use computational fluid dynamics for simulated aircraft interactions, to shorten the years normally needed to field flight simulators. Aechelon's quality management system covers COTS-based geospecific image generators, out-the-window and correlated sensor visual databases and production systems integration.
