About Truckee Tahoe Airport District
Truckee Tahoe Airport District runs Truckee Tahoe Airport, known as KTRK, in Truckee, California, in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The airport's mission is to provide safe, high-quality aviation services and facilities. It also aims to reduce its impact on neighbors and the environment, invest in ways to improve community safety, and bring lasting benefit to the Truckee Tahoe region. The field sits at an elevation of 5,901 feet. It has a control tower, and it sells 100LL and SAF Jet A fuel. Runways 02/20 and 11/29 serve the field, and the airport lists mountain terrain, high density altitude, wind shear and wildlife as hazards for pilots.
The airport serves a noise-sensitive community. It asks pilots to follow its noise abatement procedures and to respect a voluntary curfew between 10 pm and 7 am. It runs a Fly Quiet program and a Fly Safe program. Residents can report noise through an online system, and the airport offers flight path animations to help pilots plan arrivals and departures.
KTRK also acts as a regional base for emergency work. Care Flight has a full-time, 24 hour facility on site for medical response and transport. The California Highway Patrol uses the airport to stage and refuel its airplanes and helicopters for search and rescue and law enforcement. Firefighting aircraft are based there in summer. The district is working on a Tahoe City heliport for firefighting and medical helicopters. The airport is also used to move patients and organ donors across the country. In September 2026 it staged firefighting aircraft and crews for the Floriston Fire.
The airport guide covers hangars, flight training operators, lodging, meeting rooms, parking, transport, food and art. The district also gives back to the community through emergency services, open space, wildfire mitigation and STEAM education. It holds an airshow and runs a sustainability program that includes SAF.
