TRAUMAGEL
Hemostatic gel that stops severe bleeding in seconds, by Cresilon
About TRAUMAGEL
TRAUMAGEL is a hemostatic gel made by Cresilon, Inc., a medical technology company founded and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. It is a single-use gel for temporary external use that controls moderate to severe bleeding in seconds, supplied as a sterile, individually pouched 30 ml syringe. The plant-based polymer gel adheres to the wound, forms a mechanical barrier that stops the flow of blood and lets the body form a natural clot, without the manual pressure or wound packing that other methods need. It is used by EMS agencies, air medical and trauma teams, hospitals, the military and law enforcement, and must be removed within 24 hours, which can be done with saline lavage and gauze.
Evidence
Cresilon's site lists published studies and poster presentations, including a large-animal randomised controlled trial showing high efficacy, case reports on a facial gunshot wound, a partial hand amputation with ulnar artery transection, a complex head laceration and a perineal avulsion injury in an austere environment, and a case series on hemorrhage control and tourniquet removal in extremity injuries. Results have been presented at the Military Health System Research Symposium in 2025 and 2026, the Special Operations Medical Association Scientific Assembly 2026 and the Advanced Trauma Life Support Global Symposium 2026. A next-generation compact format for one-handed use by first responders was launched at EMS World 2026.
Company
Cresilon was co-founded by Joe Landolina, who developed the plant-based adhesive hemostatic gel from a project begun as a New York University student. The company's first product, VETIGEL, has been used in more than 65,000 veterinary procedures, and its pipeline targets veterinary, human trauma and human surgical applications. Cresilon is certified to ISO 13485:2016, holds a Vizient technology contract that widens access to TRAUMAGEL across US healthcare systems, and was named first in the medical devices category of Fast Company's 2026 list of the world's 50 most inventive companies. TRAUMAGEL can be ordered directly or through distribution partners such as ADS, Inc.
