Tornado Alley Turbo

Turbonormalizing systems for Bonanzas, Cessnas and the Cirrus SR22, Ada, Oklahoma

About Tornado Alley Turbo

Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. designs, manufactures and installs turbonormalizing systems for piston aircraft at its shop at 300 Airport Road in Ada, Oklahoma. Turbonormalizing, as the company explains it, converts a normally aspirated engine to turbocharged operation that holds the same 29 to 30 inches of manifold pressure available at sea level all the way up to 20,000 feet. The systems use the turbo GAMIjectors balanced fuel injection developed by General Aviation Modifications, Inc. (GAMI), which Tornado Alley Turbo says it has the exclusive right to use in turbonormalizing installations. The company describes its people as pilots, engineers and general aviation enthusiasts who developed the system in their own Bonanza.

Cirrus

Tornado Alley Turbo makes and installs the Smart Turbo, its turbonormalizing system for the Cirrus SR22. The company says the aftermarket kit is essentially the same as the kit it supplied to Cirrus Design for installation on new SR22 aircraft, with a few minor changes, and that around 900 examples were flying after almost four years of production. A four place built-in oxygen system of its own design is approved under the same STC as an option. The site quotes sustained climb rates of 1,500 feet per minute to 25,000 feet, cruise above 210 KTAS at altitude and typical high power cruise fuel burn of 17.0 to 17.5 gallons per hour. Installation takes three to four weeks at Ada. Published prices on the Cirrus page: turbonormalizing system installation US$69,950, four place oxygen system US$14,995 and a Hartzell composite propeller exchange upgrade US$25,950, effective 14 October 2025; rates change; confirm with the company. The Bonanza page lists the Whirlwind III at US$74,950 installed, effective 16 July 2026.
