About General Aviation Modifications
- Cirrus specialistCirrus-focused company, not an authorized service center
General Aviation Modifications, Inc. (GAMI) is an engine modification and fuel engineering company at 2800 Airport Road in Ada, Oklahoma. It was founded in 1994 by aeronautical engineers George Braly and Tim Roehl to obtain a Supplemental Type Certificate for balanced fuel injectors on Continental engines and a Parts Manufacturer Approval to make them. The company is known for its GAMIjectors fuel injectors and for G100UL, an unleaded 100 octane aviation gasoline.
Products
- GAMIjectors and turboGAMIjectors: balanced fuel injectors for Continental and Lycoming fuel injected engines. The company says it holds STCs and PMAs on over 300 engine models. Injectors are tuned with the GAMI Lean Test and an every-cylinder EGT and CHT monitor, and an FAA approved flight manual supplement covers the wider mixture range.
- G100UL avgas: a 100 octane unleaded fuel approved by STC. According to the G100UL FAQ, no mechanical changes are needed; an STC placard goes on the engine, appliques on the fuel ports and an addition to the flight manual supplement. The fuel weighs about 6.15 to 6.3 pounds per gallon.
- GAMISPEC 550 modifications for the Continental IO-550-B, announced with Tornado Alley Turbo, Inc. of Ada: Taperfin barrel cylinders, needle bearing rocker arms and an upgraded LiquidAir baffle kit.
- An FAA STC, with Tornado Alley Turbo, for increased maximum take-off weight on Beechcraft Bonanza S35 to G36 models with IO-550-B engines.
- The ALEC modification for Beechcraft T-34A and T-34B aircraft, with STC, PMA and an alternative method of compliance to AD 2004-25-51.
- Full Time Lean Run engine modifications for experimental turbocharged aircraft.
The website also lists Osborne tanks, LiquidAir baffles and propellers in its menu, and says a supplemental alternator and an electronic ignition system are in development. The about page describes a computerized dual flow bench, built during the original certification work, that is still used to measure injector flow. Tornado Alley Turbo, Engine Teststand and Advanced Pilot are listed as related links.
Work on Cirrus aircraft
GAMI's G100UL FAQ page says the company operates its own turbonormalized Cirrus SR22, N223TN, on G100UL avgas, normally cruising at about 80 percent of its rated 310 horsepower and lean of peak. The same page says that early in the fuel's development, Lycoming and Continental engineers came to Ada and flew a turbocharged Cirrus with G100UL in one wing tank and 100LL in the other, that a senior Cirrus Aircraft manager flew G100UL in a Cirrus to compare it with 100LL, and that Cirrus ran material compatibility tests of the fuel with its composite fuel tank materials.
