About Aerocet
Aerocet makes composite aircraft floats in Priest River, in Northern Idaho. Its floats are used by seaplane operators, missionaries in remote places and many general aviation pilots around the world.
The company says it built the first successful composite aircraft float, about 30 years ago. At that time, people told its founder that composite floats were a bad idea. Aerocet says composite floats now mean no more leaks and no more pumping.
Aerocet builds its floats by hand in its own shop. It makes every part itself, from the oil bath wheels to the electric hydraulic pump. A floor manager of almost 20 years checks each step of the build. Most staff have been with the company for over 10 years, and some for nearly 20.
The range starts with the 1500 Amphib, a carbon fiber float made for the Carbon Cub and Sport Cub. It has 1,550 lb of buoyancy, an oleo shock system and six watertight compartments. The nose gear is sliding and retractable. Other models are the 2200, the 3400 Amphib, the 3500L, the 5850, the 6650 Amphib and the 6750. The company also makes a cargo pod for the Cessna 206.
Aerocet pairs its floats with popular bush aircraft. The 6650 Amphib is fitted to the Kodiak 100 by Daher, and the company calls the result one of the most capable seaplanes in the world. The 5850 is shown on a Beaver, and the 3400 on a Cessna 185.
Customers include pilots, adventure seekers and commercial seaplane operators. Aerocet also supports amphibious floats, which let a pilot land on water or on land. The company has a dealer network. Buyers can ask for float prices, parts and service by form or email.
Aerocet is in Priest River, a small town with many lakes and rivers nearby. The team includes pilots, aviation fans and engineers, and the company says it plans to serve the seaplane industry for years to come.
