Stellar Exploration

Stellar Exploration, Inc. is a San Luis Obispo, California company focused on low-cost space science and applications, developing affordable hardware for miniaturised aerospace systems with a track record of working solutions in operational deployment. It supplies military, civil and commercial customers and has delivered several nanosatellite propulsion, power and RF tracking subsystems, with experience in satellite integration and solid rocket propulsion.

Nanosatellite power systems

• A power subsystem developed for high peak current and a lifetime of more than three years at low unit cost, with redundant lithium-ion modules and dedicated balancing and control for each string
• Flight heritage with more than 24 units launched between 2018 and 2021
• Battery configurations that can be modified to customer requirements, with quotes available on request

Nanosatellite propulsion

• Mono and bipropellant propulsion systems for nanosatellites
• A miniaturised hypergolic bipropellant thruster designed, built and tested as early R&D for a NASA-funded deep space nanosatellite mission, providing 3 N of thrust at 285 seconds specific impulse with gear-pump pressurised propellant
• Hypergolic propulsion development and solid rocket propulsion experience

Tracking and miniaturised hardware

• A passive nanosatellite tracking and telemetry tag, a low-cost device similar to an RFID tag that attaches to small satellites and communicates telemetry by backscatter modulation from space radars, with no onboard power requirement
• Miniaturised hardware development for aerospace systems
