Autonomous runway inspection and maintenance robots, Stavanger, Norway

Roboxi

About Roboxi

Roboxi is a Norwegian company based in Stavanger that develops an autonomous, multi-purpose robot for airport runways, taxiways and aprons. The robot is aimed at airport owners and operators who want to reduce manual runway inspections.

What the robot does

According to the company, the electric Roboxi robot carries several modules that run at the same time:

  • Foreign object debris (FOD) detection and removal, using AI
  • Bird and wildlife deterrence
  • Monitoring of the runway surface condition
  • Detection of faulty light bulbs

Operational data goes to secure cloud storage, giving the airport a digital record. The system is managed from a central command centre over wireless communication, and one command centre can oversee robots at several airports. Roboxi also provides APIs for integration with existing airport systems.
