About ACAMS Airport Tower Solutions

ACAMS Airport Tower Solutions is a Norwegian company that designs and installs integrated airport tower systems. It is based in Oslo, Norway, and serves both civil and military customers around the world.

The company has been delivering airport control solutions since 2001. It designs, delivers, installs and commissions systems for integrated tower operations. Work ranges from full turnkey tower systems to single sub-systems, including research and development. Sites range from large international hubs to small regional towers. Systems can be scaled to fit any civil or military tower.

The main product is I-TWR, an integrated tower system. It brings monitoring, control and display into one easy working space, so controllers do not need several separate systems. Its software applications cover airfield lighting, navaid control, weather displays, emergency systems, video surveillance, technical monitoring, time display, tower cabin environment and document handling.

Other solutions include ATIS, which sends current routine information to aircraft. VOLMET creates weather messages for aircraft in flight, such as METAR, SPECI, TAF and SIGMET. The Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System controls runway, approach, taxiway, stop bar and apron lights. The Technical Control and Monitoring System gathers status and fault data from ATC sub-systems. The Crash Alarm System alerts emergency teams and sets up calls. The CAT Status system tracks navaids, weather and ground lighting to work out the airport's operational category.

ACAMS builds its systems from standard off-the-shelf hardware, with rack servers and a dual Ethernet network that tolerates faults. The software is modular, so the screens can be adapted to each customer. Safety critical functions such as airfield lighting and navaids run on a redundant core platform. All applications log events to a database to keep a record of user actions.

The company has branch offices in Singapore, Tunisia, Brazil and Canada. It also works through partner companies in many countries. Its installations include the Cairo airport tower, where I-TWR controls the airfield lighting. Customers who have praised its work include air navigation bodies in Brazil and Botswana.
