About Power Flow Systems

Power Flow Systems, Inc. makes FAA-approved tuned exhaust systems for piston aircraft in Daytona Beach, Florida. The company was founded in 1997 by Robin Thomas, who is also president of Laminar Flow Systems, a maker of speed modifications for Piper PA-28, PA-32 and PA-34 aircraft. Its first STC, in March 1999, covered a tuned exhaust for the Cessna 172 with the Lycoming O-320. In 2026 the company moved to a larger facility at 574 LPGA Boulevard, Daytona Beach, FL 32117, off the airport about five to ten minutes from Daytona Beach International Airport (KDAB), and says it has been in business for 27 years.

Products

Power Flow's exhausts are built one at a time by hand from North American 321 stainless steel, TIG welded with argon back purging, and tested in Daytona Beach. The site explains that the length of each riser tube is tuned so the exhaust pulse from one cylinder helps draw out the next, giving a smoother, cooler and more powerful engine. STC and PMA approved systems are listed for:

  • Lycoming O-320, O-360, IO-360 and IO-390 aircraft: Aviat Husky A-1 series, Beechcraft 19 and 23 series, Cessna 172, 175, 177 and 177RG, Diamond DA40 and DA40F, Grumman AA5 series, Mooney M20 B to J, Piper PA-12, PA-18, PA-20/22 and PA-28, Robinson R22 and Symphony SA160
  • Continental engines: Cessna 180, 182, 185, 205, 206 and 210, including AirPlains, NorthPoint, P-Ponk and Texas Skyways O-470, 520 and 550 conversions
  • Experimental: Glastar and Sportsman 2+2; field approval required for the Citabria 8-GCBC and Cessna 150 series

The company says its design has been proven on four-cylinder Lycoming and six-cylinder Continental engines and that it develops systems for the most common aircraft types as resources allow; it does not do field approvals itself, though some customers have obtained them with their own mechanics. Systems are made to order, with a typical production and shipping time of four to six weeks.
