About Odys Aviation
Odys Aviation develops hybrid VTOL aircraft and hybrid power systems. The company builds power systems that scale from 20 kW to 4 MW. These systems support applications on the ground and in the air. The company validates its technology through aviation programs that demand high power density, efficiency, and durability.
The company produces two main aircraft. Laila is a tactical VTOL drone. It uses a 100 kW class hybrid power system. The aircraft has a range of 450 miles. It carries a payload of 130 pounds. It can fly for eight hours.
Alta is a larger VTOL cargo aircraft. It uses a 1 MW hybrid power system. The aircraft has a range of 1,200 miles. It can carry 3,500 pounds. It features dual flexible cargo capability. The company designed Alta for regional VTOL operations.
Odys serves the defense, cargo, and humanitarian markets. For defense, the company notes that the U.S. Department of Defense has identified gaps in UAV availability, affordability, and scalability. Odys provides long range flight and runway independent operations. For cargo, the company targets hard to reach areas where traditional logistics struggle. For humanitarian and civil missions, the company focuses on patient transport and emergency medical services using VTOL capabilities.
In 2026, the company announced several partnerships. In March 2026, Honeywell Aerospace selected Laila as the airborne platform for a counter UAS defense solution. In July 2026, Odys joined a Honeywell led EU initiative to integrate eVTOLs and cargo drones into European airspace. Also in July 2026, Odys signed an agreement with ST Engineering to develop hybrid electric propulsion for the DrN 600 medium lift cargo UAS.
The company emerged from stealth in August 2021 after completing Y Combinator. It received $12.4 million in seed funding. In 2022, it secured a Phase II contract from the U.S. Department of Defense and accumulated over $9 billion in letters of intent and pre orders. The company completed its first full scale Laila prototype flight test campaign in late 2022. In November 2024, it validated full transition flight across vertical, transition, and cruise modes. In September 2025, it closed a Series A funding round of $26 million.
