Nextchem

Nextchem is the company of the Italian MAIRE group for green chemistry and energy transition technologies, designing processes that help customers move towards an industrial economy powered by renewable, clean and biogenic sources. Operating as MAIRE Sustainable Technology Solutions under managing director Fabio Fritelli, with its registered office at Via di Vannina 88/94 in Rome and companies in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands, it combines proprietary technologies with a research and development department that identifies and executes innovation programmes on strategic technology platforms. Its sustainable fuels offering is a modular suite for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel production that the company describes as efficient, compliant and scalable.

Sustainable aviation fuel projects

• Canada: in June 2026 Nextchem, through its subsidiary MyRechemical, signed a licensing agreement with SUSTAERO GP Inc. for the biomass-to-syngas section of a SAF plant that will convert forest residues into purified chemical-grade syngas using the proprietary NX Circular gasification technology; the plant is set to be operational in 2030 and to produce up to 144,000 tonnes of SAF a year, with a potential scope extension covering the process design package, proprietary equipment, technical services and catalyst supply after the final investment decision
• Australia: in August 2026 SKY Renewables Burdekin Pty Ltd awarded Nextchem licensing, process design package and engineering services for the syngas section of Project Lion in North Queensland, which will turn sugarcane tops and trash, residues often burned in the field, into syngas for conversion into SAF and renewable diesel, with potential output of up to 125,000 tonnes of SAF a year at full scale
• NX Circular covers high-temperature gasification and melting of wastes and biomass residues into synthetic gas and its purification, providing the first step of SAF production ahead of third-party conversion technologies

Beyond fuels, Nextchem develops technologies for green chemistry, circular economy and low-carbon processes, has taken part in European research projects such as Initiate, MeWLife, DEMETO, DECADE, BiZeolCat, PEGASUS and STREAM, and is expanding through the planned acquisition of the Ballestra Group.
