National Gay Pilots Association

The National Gay Pilots Association, or NGPA, is a membership organisation for the LGBTQ+ aviation community. Since 1990 it has connected LGBTQ+ pilots, aviation professionals and enthusiasts through scholarships, community, mentoring and events. It describes itself as the largest organisation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender pilots, aviation professionals and enthusiasts in the world. Its mailing address is PO Box 14150, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mission

NGPA's stated mission is to build, support and unite the LGBTQ+ aviation community worldwide, through education, mentoring, events, scholarships and advocacy. It aims to provide an affirming social and professional network, to promote equal treatment through advocacy and outreach, and to encourage members of the LGBTQ+ community to begin careers in aviation. It reports having awarded more than US$2,750,000 in scholarships.

Programmes

• Scholarships: the 2026 programme included awards for general aviation flight training, transgender and non-binary advocates, women's committee advocates, and aircraft mechanic and flight training scholarships offered with airlines including PSA Airlines, Endeavor Air, Republic Airways and FedEx, as well as scholarships with United Airlines and Aviate Academy. Applications for 2027 open in June 2027.
• Chapters: local and university chapters, including chapters tied to United Aviate Academy
• Events: an industry expo, the Wings Over event series with its Chicago Pride 2026 edition, student summits and webinars
• Support: mental health, addiction and recovery support, and a homophobia and transphobia reporting channel

Business membership

NGPA offers an annual Business Membership at US$500 for companies, flight schools and organisations. Benefits listed on the site include visibility on the website and in quarterly publications, early notice of expo exhibitor registration, three complimentary individual memberships, access to inclusion training materials and the members only job page, and an annual glass decal for the business premises.

At EAA AirVenture

NGPA attends EAA AirVenture each year. For the 2027 show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from 26 July to 1 August, it plans a private campground just outside the gates, a booth in Hangar B at space 2046 and an annual members barbecue on Thursday 29 July 2027 at 6 pm, sponsored by Avemco.
