Mecachrome
High-precision machining for aeronautics, motorsport and defence since 1937
About Mecachrome
Mecachrome is a French industrial group. It was created in 1937 and has its roots in motorsport and Formula 1. The group describes itself as a consolidation platform for high precision mechanics. It machines mechanical parts and builds high precision assemblies.
Mecachrome works in four areas. These are aeronautics, premium automotive and motorsport, and defense, naval, energy and space, which the group calls DNES. In aeronautics it makes airframe structures and aero-engine parts.
In aerostructures, the group calls itself a worldwide tier 2 supplier and one of the top three in France. The website says Airbus recognises it as a champion of elementary parts. It designs and makes subassemblies for commercial and regional aircraft, helicopters, combat aircraft and business jets.
In aero-engines, Mecachrome is a key partner of Safran, Rolls-Royce and Pratt and Whitney. It makes technically complex assemblies for civil and military aircraft engines. It also makes engine transmission mechanisms for helicopters.
For automotive and motorsport, the company makes major engine parts. Lower engine parts include sumps and cylinder blocks. Upper engine parts include cylinder heads and covers. Accessories include timing covers, pump housings, brackets and rocker arms. Flexible options include focus factories and flexible workshops.
The services range includes cutting tool production and resharpening, with patented processes for ISO carbide inserts. It also offers hot isostatic pressing, surface treatment and foundry work. The website lists 12 five-axis CNC grinders, automated measuring benches and a HIP press.
Customers named on the website include Airbus, Bombardier, the CEA, Dassault, Embraer, Ferrari, Renault Alpine, Safran, Spirit, Thales and Porsche. The group also cites nanomechanics and HVOF thermal spraying among its technologies. The company says its services can save clients up to 45 percent, depending on the use. The website says its surface treatment capacity in Tunisia and Morocco is designed to serve other members of the aerospace supply chain.
