About MathWorks

MathWorks is the developer of MATLAB and Simulink, mathematical computing and simulation software used by engineers and scientists worldwide, and provides technical support, training, consulting and certification for its products through regional sites including its French-language site. MATLAB is described by the company as a computing environment combining maths, graphics and programming for the way engineers think and work, while Simulink is a block diagram environment for simulation and Model-Based Design of multidomain and embedded systems that lets users explore, test and implement designs in a fraction of the time needed to write C, C++ or HDL code.

Aerospace and defence

  • Aerospace and defence companies rely on MATLAB and Simulink across all technology readiness levels, from prototypes to safety and mission critical air, space, naval and land systems, for design, simulation, test and deployment
  • Development, analysis and implementation of spacecraft communications systems, and design and test of multifunction RF systems such as radar, wireless communications and electronic warfare
  • Digital engineering workflows for maritime surface systems using Model-Based Design, and creation of digital twins, a digital thread and DevSecOps pipelines
  • Customer examples include BAE Systems Surface Ships, which developed an on-board trainer plant simulation for the Royal Navy, and NASA work on producing oxygen from the Martian atmosphere featured on the French site
  • MathWorks Consulting for Aerospace to speed up MATLAB and Simulink projects, with customised quotes for products and services

Model-Based Design and AI

  • Systematic use of models throughout the development process, covering control system design, requirements traceability, verification and code generation
  • Solutions for robotics and autonomous systems, wireless and telecommunications system design and deployment, and agentic AI tools for MATLAB and Simulink
  • Regular releases with new features, a help centre with documentation, community forums and release notes

Training and community

MathWorks offers remote, in-person and self-paced training in MATLAB fundamentals, data analysis, modelling and programming and an introduction to Simulink covering dynamic system modelling, model hierarchy and component reuse, together with a certification programme, events and webinars, student programmes, competitions and hackathons and project ideas for educators. The company states its purpose as accelerating the pace of discovery, innovation, development and learning in engineering and science, guided by the principle of doing the right thing for staff, customers, partners and communities, and it publishes a sustainability section describing its practices.
