KUK Coils

KUK Coils is the customer-specific coil winding and electronics manufacturing business of KUK Group, headquartered in Appenzell, Switzerland, and founded in 1990. The group describes itself as a market leader for custom winding goods, employs more than 1,000 people and has established six subsidiaries worldwide alongside its Swiss headquarters, giving it a global network for customer service, procurement, manufacturing and logistics. It acts as a process partner from product idea to large-scale series production, with its own development department and integrated machine and tool making.

Products

• Air core coils in cylindrical and rectangular forms, baked varnish and self-supported coils, windings on bobbins and on magnetic cores, toroidal coils, transformers and chokes
• Micro coils with ultra-fine wire from 0.010 mm, wound directly on magnetic cores or as air core coils, together with the connection techniques needed at these dimensions
• High-frequency transformers, sensors and coils for drive technology, stepper motors and complete solenoid valve units made on fully automated lines, including injection moulding of coil bobbins and overmoulding with standard plug connectors
• Electronic manufacturing services with printed circuit board assembly on SMD and THT lines in variable series sizes, assembly of complete modules from procurement to quality control, and support in developing customised test systems

Markets

• Defence: custom coils for military use underwater, on land and in the air, described as essential electromagnetic components for UAVs, radar and communication protection
• Automotive, industrial automation and building automation, and medical and sensor applications, where the MagPip pipetting channel combining a linear drive and pipette received a German Innovation Award jury statement for its piston acceleration

Company

KUK Group is managed by Manuel Inauen as chief executive, Stefan Dörig as chief technology officer and Andreas Wild as head of sales. It applies Swiss quality standards and recognised certifications, builds its own production plants to secure series quality and short time to market, and provides input during prototyping that proves valuable in series production. The company exhibits at electronica and MD and M Midwest and has introduced its coil winding technology in the UK.
