Hargrave Technologies
UAS motor controllers and smart power supplies from Australia
About Hargrave Technologies
Hargrave Technologies is an Australian developer of power electronics for unmanned aircraft systems, specialising in electronic speed controllers (ESCs) that drive brushless electric motors in demanding applications. It was founded in 2015 as Advanced Power Drives and grew from a small group of engineers focused on the drone market into a supplier of key UAS components to large aerospace companies. Its products are designed and manufactured in Australia, and NDAA-compliant options are offered for all of them.
The company is named after Lawrence Hargrave, the Australian engineer, inventor and explorer who pioneered early aerial navigation. It writes its own firmware from the ground up in Australia, which it says gives full control over both hardware and software. The ESCs support PWM, DShot, ProShot and CAN bus protocols.
Motor controllers
- microDRIVE LP: the lightest IP67 controller of the range, rated 60 A continuous and 110 A burst, with DroneCAN, ARINC 825, DShot and PWM and a base weight of 94 g
- microDRIVE LPi: an ultra-light bare-board controller with the same ratings at a base weight of 34 g
- microDRIVE MP: a medium power controller delivering 120 A continuous and 200 A burst in an IP67 package, with a base weight of 175 g
- nanoDRIVE 4LPi: a 4-in-1 small UAS solution rated 20 A continuous and 40 A peak per ESC, with a 5 V BEC that supplies up to 2.5 A
Smart power supplies
- microFLUX 4LP: a 4-channel smart power supply that feeds avionics and payloads, rated 5 A continuous per channel with digitally selectable output voltages and DroneCAN telemetry and control
- microFLUX 4LPi: a version for tightly integrated platforms with integrated protection
- microFLUX 2MP: a dual-channel unit rated 20 A continuous per channel
- microFLUX 2MPi: a version for integration directly into the airframe
Customisation and markets
Off-the-shelf products meet immediate needs, while a customisation team develops variants or designs from the ground up, covering electronics and software. The company says its power electronics are recognised in commercial and defence aerospace markets, and that it also offers solutions for the automotive and space industries.
