Eurospace
Trade association of the European space industry since 1961
About Eurospace
Eurospace is the trade association of the European space industry. Founded in 1961, it brings together Europe's main space companies, which together represent more than 90 percent of European space systems sales and about 60 percent of sector employment. Its founding mission remains to give the industry a collective voice, foster collaboration and advocate for industry needs with the European Space Agency, national space agencies, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Defence Agency and national governments. The association operates from the ASD premises at Rue du Trone 100, 1050 Brussels, and from an office on rue du Quatre Septembre in Paris. Pierre Lionnet is director of research and general manager, and Jean-Charles Treuet is technology director and, since June 2024, chairman of the SPACE AISBL association coordinating the Globally Competitive Space Systems partnership with the European Commission.
Activities
- Policy and advocacy through a policy committee and task forces that identify issues affecting the sector and issue industry-driven recommendations
- Space economy expertise, including the annual facts and figures report, now in its 30th edition, with data on market trends and the industrial and institutional landscape
- Research and technology, shaping ESA's end-to-end technology strategy since the late 1990s and representing members' priorities for space R and D within the Space Partnership
- Compliance support, including a standardisation working group that relays industry positions into ECSS bodies, a REACH task force on chemicals regulation (Eurospace has been an ECHA accredited stakeholder since 2024) and an EEE components panel
- An exclusive knowledge library and a calendar of official meetings and events
Recent work
Eurospace published the GALAXY report, an independent industry-led assessment based on interviews with 15 chief executives of European space companies, which describes urgency and frustration over structural fragmentation, constrained budgets and weak profitability and recommends changes to European institutional demand. It has warned against prohibitive limit values in the proposed EU chromium(VI) restriction under REACH and convenes a European space restrictions task force on chemicals files. Member companies are listed in its general presentation.
