About European Cockpit Association

The European Cockpit Association (ECA) is the representative body of European pilots at European Union level. Created in 1991 and registered as an AISBL in Brussels, it represents more than 44,000 professional pilots from the national pilot associations of 33 European states, plus three associate members. ECA works for the highest levels of aviation safety and for social rights and quality employment for the people who fly Europe's aircraft, and shapes policy debates from safety standards and crew working conditions to cybersecurity.

Current work

  • A Europe-wide pilot fatigue survey for summer 2026, feeding evidence to EASA and to airlines on how fatigue is managed, together with the report Pushed to the Edge on fatigue, working conditions and the realities of flying in Europe
  • A position paper on weather information for flight safety, published in 2026
  • Analysis of the 2026 EASA Article 89 report and a position on the integration of Evidence-Based Training into pilot training programmes
  • A warning against granting more traffic rights to United Arab Emirates airlines while differences in competitive conditions and social standards remain, addressed to the German government
  • Support for 11 Bluebird Nordic pilots who were dismissed and replaced by self-employed crew and who have won court cases over five years without payment of the 400,000 euro awarded

Role

ECA represents the collective interests of professional pilots towards EU institutions, EASA and other bodies, speaks at safety conferences and publishes news, position papers and surveys on its website. It recruits staff for its Brussels office, including a communications and campaigns manager, and offers a newsletter subscription.
