About Butler Heavy Structures

Butler Heavy Structures is a unit of Butler that supplies large structural steel buildings. These buildings are made for extreme spans, tall eave heights and heavy crane and equipment loads. Aviation is one of the fields it shows on its site, through hangar projects.

The company says Butler has helped teams with complex structures for more than a century. It joins engineering, detailing and fabrication in one process. It uses advanced modeling to improve the system early in a project. The site says this gives predictable results from a single source of technical know-how.

Its heavy structures are designed for clear height and clear span projects beyond 60 feet in height and 250 feet in span, with crane loads of more than 60 tons. They are built to handle severe snow, wind and seismic forces. Uses named on the site include steel mills, utility plants and manufacturing facilities. The company also says its systems support complex shapes, long spans and varied facade systems for architects.

Buildings are delivered through Butler Builders, a network of authorized partners. These builders combine local knowledge with Butler engineering. The site has a tool to find a builder and a page about the network.

Featured projects include the Tinker Air Force Base multi-bay hangar, a maintenance complex for diverse aircraft fleets, built by The Korte Company. Another project is the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum, where a building protects displayed aircraft. A third project is an outdoor amphitheater with a clear span roof. Related products include the MR-24 standing seam metal roof system.
