About BrightSpot Automation

BrightSpot Automation provides manufacturing and measurement tools for the solar photovoltaic industry. Its systems range from terrestrial panels to space solar cells and arrays. For over 12 years, the company has helped solar manufacturers, researchers and EPCs detect defects faster and improve yield.

Its electroluminescence tools include CellSpot EL/PL for small to medium areas in a dark enclosure, and PanEL-Spot for lab imaging of cells and panels. TravEL-Spot images modules in the field and indoors. PLus-Spot tests photoluminescence over large areas.

Its ultraviolet fluorescence range includes UVF-Spot for high-throughput, non-contact imaging of panel defects and bill of materials variations. It also offers UVF-DroneSpot and a UVF kit. ContactSpot covers contact resistivity testing.

Its solutions cover terrestrial PV in R&D and manufacturing, installation and field testing, and end of life decommissioning. Space PV supports imaging from cell research and panel manufacturing to final satellite integration. Custom solutions and perovskite work are also offered.

The company offers consulting, including QC program development, testing and data analysis, risk assessments and due diligence investigations. It also runs hands-on courses in EL and UVF defect testing, and it is an approved NABCEP continuing education provider.

The site says BrightSpot is trusted by more than 200 companies, including Caelux, D2 Solar, Aptera, Tandem PV, Mirai Solar and the University of Colorado. Its publications include work presented at the Space Power Workshop in April 2026 on quality control of satellite solar panels.

BrightSpot says its values are integrity, scientific excellence and long-term partnership. It says its testing aims for accurate insight into panel performance rather than unnecessary alarm. The company is based in Boulder, Colorado.
