AIKO Space
AI and autonomy for space missions
About AIKO Space
AIKO Space is an Italian company that designs and delivers artificial intelligence for space missions. Its software works both onboard spacecraft and in ground operations. The company says it has more than ten years of operational experience and a team of over 60 engineers and business professionals.
AIKO was founded in Turin in 2017 with a plan to bring real AI into space. It grew from aerospace engineering and AI skills. Along the way it raised a first round of 1.5 million euros, led by Italy's first dedicated space venture fund. It later closed a Series A round of 4 million euros. In Toulouse, it runs AIKO France, which works with CNES, ESA and other European partners.
The company sells autonomy for every layer of a mission. Its tools cover tasks from system monitoring to full spacecraft autonomy. It also gives customers software, mission design support and the know-how to make systems work together, from design through operations.
AIKO offers four main solutions. GENE is an AI platform that spots anomalies early and helps find the root cause, with explainable alerts. ORBITAL OLIVER lets a spacecraft take decisions and act in real time, from planning to in-orbit work, and it can run the payload. CLEAR is an onboard application that processes payload data on the spacecraft. This cuts delay and reduces the need for ground support. DYNAMIC DANA handles autonomous manoeuvres, such as repositioning, collision avoidance, orbit maintenance, inspection, servicing and deorbiting.
The solutions suit different teams. Satellite operators use them to handle manoeuvres, anomalies and mission changes faster. Earth observation payload teams, mission architects and ground operations teams have their own uses. AIKO says its tools can be ready to use, adapted to a spacecraft, built to work with existing onboard computers and ground tools, and backed by support after launch.
Results such as more anomalies found than with older methods and less unneeded data sent down to Earth. The company says it proves its work in orbit, and it describes an early in-orbit demonstration of a deep learning algorithm for cloud detection on an Earth observation mission.
