Bertin Technologies

Bertin Technologies is a European industrial group in high-end instrumentation for critical and scientific applications. The company says its mission is to supply measurement and observation components, equipment and systems. These help meet major challenges and support industrial sustainability and European sovereignty. The group is organised into four divisions, which run seven business units.

The company covers the full lifecycle of its systems. This includes research and development, manufacturing and the delivery of complete equipment and solutions. Its three core areas are technological development, industrial manufacturing of components, equipment and systems, and calibration and operational maintenance services. The website names NASA, Airbus, Thales and EDF among its prestigious clients.

The business units cover radiation measurement, nuclear and health physics, optical and optronic solutions, and adaptive optics. They also include CBRN threat detection and identification, unattended ground sensors, and research, healthcare and medical waste treatment. Bertin Alpao, based in Grenoble, specialises in adaptive optics. Bertin Exensor, based in Lund in Sweden, makes unattended ground sensors.

The group has several specialist sites. Pertuis and Aix-en-Provence have clean rooms for optical and optronic components. Thiron-Gardais has a 3,250 square metre site for nuclear sensors, with a calibration laboratory for radioprotection equipment. Dieppe has a 2,300 square metre facility for medical waste management solutions. The biology laboratory at Montigny-le-Bretonneux supports life sciences and biodefence work.

Outside France, the group has sites in Germany for environmental radiological monitoring and in Italy for integration and sales. Radiation monitoring systems are made in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A production and sales site is in Basingstoke in the United Kingdom. Bertin Environics is based in Mikkeli, Finland. In the United States, Bertin Corp. is in Rockville, Maryland, and Bertin Environics USA is in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Precellys range of tissue homogenizers uses bead-beating technology to prepare biological samples. The company says the process takes only a few dozen seconds. Models range from the Minilys, which processes up to three samples, to the Precellys Evolution Touch, which handles up to 96 samples. The group also sells assay kits and antibodies for biomarker research, with more than 40 assay kits and 240 antibodies listed on its website. Its radiation range includes the GammaTRACER XL2 gamma probe, the AlphaE radon monitor, dosimetry products and portal monitors.
