BBAL
German association of general aviation businesses
About BBAL
BBAL e.V., the Bundesverband der Betriebe der Allgemeinen Luftfahrt, is the German federal association of general aviation businesses. It grew out of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Allgemeine Luftfahrt Wirtschaftsverband e.V. (AAL), founded in 1989, and represents the interests of small and medium-sized general aviation enterprises, particularly towards the German Federal Ministry of Transport and the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA), as well as at the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne. Its board members include H. P. Gomolzig, Svenja Bock and Kurt Dahlmann, and the association is reachable through its office mailbox and a contact form.
Focus of the association's work
- Representing SMEs in general aviation before the federal transport ministry and the LBA, and taking part in drafting European rules, EASA regulations and implementing rules
- Supporting member companies in implementing EASA requirements in their operations, and issuing organisational aids such as procedure instructions
- Seminars and training for SMEs, including Part 145 maintenance, ISO 9000 and auditor courses
- Press and public relations, informing members about the association's work, and communicating with members and authorities to resolve individual problem cases
- Technical expertise in general aviation, objective cooperation with ministries and authorities, and organisational tools developed in qualified working groups
European cooperation
BBAL belongs to a supranational grouping of national general aviation business associations whose aim is to work jointly for the survival of general aviation businesses in Europe, especially at EASA. Its partner associations are AADAW, the Association of Approved Danish Aircraft Workshops, GAMTA, the General Aviation Manufacturers and Traders Association in the United Kingdom, SNIPAG, the Syndicat National des Industriels et Professionnels de l'Aviation Generale in France, and VNLO, the Vereniging van Nederlandse Luchtvaart Ondernemingen in the Netherlands, with membership of further European associations being sought. The association's main goal is to safeguard the interests of commercial general aviation businesses and to give them future-oriented support, and it maintains a members' area and a published constitution on its website.
