About Army Pathway for Innovation and Technology
The Army Pathway for Innovation and Technology, called PIT, is a U.S. Army organization that speeds new technology to soldiers. It works with industry, startups, universities and investors across the United States.
PIT is part of Army acquisition reform. The Army set up a 6 plus 1 structure with Portfolio Acquisition Executives, and PIT is the plus one. Its job is to turn technology into warfighting capability quickly. It tests ideas close to soldiers, in a style it calls innovation in the dirt.
PIT groups its work into three parts. Army FUZE, launched in 2025, brings xTech, SBIR and STTR, the Technology Maturation Initiative and Army Manufacturing Technology under one umbrella. It looks for dual-use technology and works with a venture capital mindset. The Joint Innovation Outpost links startups, venture capital and Army Corps commands. The Global Tactical Edge Acquisition Directorate, called G-TEAD, adapts and deploys technology for the needs of Army theater commands.
PIT has five focus areas. They are speeding up capability development, shortening the path from lab to front line, building a stronger supply chain, equipping soldiers at the tactical edge, and improving how innovation moves into programs of record. It helps companies cross the so-called Valley of Death between a prototype and a program of record.
PIT works to lower the barrier for small businesses and non-traditional firms. It turns solicitations into clear, soldier-defined problems. It uses flexible contracts such as OTAs. It also guides startups and links them to end users for evaluation. Prototypes are refined through Transformation in Contact rotations, with direct feedback from soldiers.
PIT works with many groups. They include soldiers, defense primes and startups, investors, Army commands and program offices, other Department of War partners, policy and legislative leaders, universities, manufacturers and research labs. Named partners include the C2 Trail Boss, Joint Interagency Task Force 401, the United States Military Academy at West Point and the Catalyst Pathfinder Program. PIT also has a private capital channel for investors.
PIT lists upcoming events. They include LANDEURO 2026 on December 3 to 4, 2026, CES 2027 on January 6 to 9, 2027, and the eMerge Americas Conference and Expo on March 2 to 4, 2027.
