About Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps
The Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps is the legal arm of the United States Air Force. It gives legal advice to commanders and airmen, and it runs military justice, legal assistance and legal training worldwide.
Its vision is to be trusted, agile professionals who empower the warfighter and accomplish the mission. Its mission has four parts. It sharpens commander and leader decision making. It provides well-reasoned, independent and candid legal counsel. It advises in line with the rule of law. And it enables mission success of the Air, Space and Joint Force.
Military justice is a major area. The corps publishes the court-martial docket and trial results. It also lists appellate defense counsel, area defense counsel and a worldwide map of defense counsel offices. Victims' counsel offices and locations are listed too. The Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals is linked for reference.
Community legal services help airmen and families with personal legal needs. A legal assistance website and a locator help people find their nearest base legal office. The Air Force Claims Service Center takes claims through an online filing system.
The corps also trains and informs its people. The Judge Advocate General's School offers courses, and a library holds school and archive publications. The JAG Reporter publishes articles on civil law, military justice, operations and international law, and leadership, along with podcasts.
Topics covered range from environmental rules, such as water jurisdiction on installations, to defense against drone threats. The corps has served the Air Force for over 60 years.
The corps recruits judge advocates for the Air Force and the Air Reserve Component. It lists a funded legal education program, internships and externships, and ROTC and direct appointment information.
