FBOs: common questions

Services, hours and fees differ by airport and by FBO, so confirm with the FBO before you travel.

What is an FBO?
An FBO, or fixed base operator, is a business at an airport that serves general and business aviation. It usually sells fuel, handles arriving and departing aircraft and passengers, and offers a private terminal, parking and often hangar space. Many also provide crew services such as a lounge and transport.
What services does an FBO provide?
Typical services are fuel, ramp and ground handling, aircraft parking and hangars, a passenger and crew lounge, catering, ground transport and help with flight planning. Customs and immigration clearance is available at some FBOs on international airports. Services differ by location, so check the FBO's own page before you land.
What is the difference between an FBO and a ground handler?
The terms overlap. An FBO is a physical facility with its own terminal and ramp at one airport. A ground handling company may serve several airports and may work from an FBO or from a commercial terminal. Business jet operators often use an FBO for both.
How do I choose an FBO at an airport with more than one?
Compare fuel availability, hangar space for your aircraft size, customs on site, opening hours and the fees quoted for your type of aircraft. Ask for ramp fees, handling fees and any waiver tied to a fuel purchase, because they differ between FBOs on the same airport.
Do I need to book an FBO in advance?
In most cases yes. FBOs plan staff, fuel and parking around expected arrivals, and some airports require a slot or prior permission. Send the aircraft type, registration, arrival time and the services you need to the FBO before the flight, and confirm hours for night or weekend arrivals.
Is my FBO missing or wrong on this page?
The list covers FBOs that we have checked against the operator's own website. If your FBO is missing, or an address, phone number or service is wrong, add or claim your company and we will correct it.
