Helicopter service companies fly missions that fixed-wing aircraft cannot: point-to-point charter between helipads, sightseeing tours, offshore crew transfer, aerial work such as lifting, survey and firefighting, and pilot training. Others in this category maintain, upgrade or equip helicopters rather than fly them.

For passenger flights, check that the operator holds an air operator certificate (AOC) for commercial transport, which types it flies, whether the aircraft are single or twin engine, and how much experience its pilots have on type. Offshore clients usually also expect operators to meet IOGP aviation guidelines. For maintenance, look for an EASA or national Part-145 approval that covers your helicopter type.
