YoungPilots

YoungPilots is a German non-profit organisation that prepares young people for a career as a pilot. For more than 23 years it has offered a team environment in which aspiring pilots can get ready for the cockpit, with generations of members passing on their experience; more than 260 young people have taken part over the past 20 years. The group, whose contact address is with Thomas Kärger at Newtonstrasse 7g in Berlin, holds a public meeting once a month, in person at the aviatorlounge or online, where newcomers can get to know the team.

What members get

• Guidance on preparing for the profession while still at school: which subjects matter most, how far school English goes, and which areas of mathematics and physics will soon play a role
• Advice on staying medically fit, which factors would exclude a candidate from the profession and which can be corrected
• Preparation for airline screenings and selection, with reports from members on assessments, simulator training and practical flying, and updates on the airline situation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and on PPL training
• Insider knowledge on different routes into the cockpit, including how to train cost-effectively and how to shape one's own training

Activities

YoungPilots takes part in PilotCareerLive in Frankfurt, a fair for prospective pilots where flight schools and institutions present themselves and more than 1,000 visitors attended in the previous year, and it has appeared at ILA 2026 in Berlin, AERO 2026 in Friedrichshafen and the FS Conference in Paderborn. Members have travelled on YoungPilots US tours in spring and summer 2026, and the group marks occasions such as Christmas together. Its website carries news, a team page, a gallery and information on how to join, with an online version of its introduction to the pilot profession, and it is active on Instagram. The site notes the aviation quotation that inventing an aircraft is nothing, building one is something, and flying it is everything.
