VREF Inc.

VREF Inc. is an aircraft valuation and appraisal company headquartered at 318 Half Day Road in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, north of Chicago. Established in 1994 as VREF Aircraft Value Reference, Appraisal and Litigation Consulting Services, it publishes aircraft and engine values and performs appraisals for banks, insurers, brokers, dealers, operators, manufacturers and individual owners. Jason Zilberbrand, an accredited senior appraiser, is president. The company covers corporate jets, turbine and piston fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, commercial narrow-body airliners and engines, and says it has no financial interest in aviation assets.

• VREF Online: a subscription valuation platform with current data for aircraft, engines, optional equipment and performance, where users build and save their own aircraft profiles and valuation reports, in two tiers, monthly or annually
• VREF Aircraft Valuation Guidebooks, printed each quarter as an archived record of values at the time of publication, sold singly or by annual subscription
• USPAP compliant, ASA accredited desktop and on-site appraisals based on the installed equipment list, avionics, STCs and modifications, photos and a logbook review, with over 40 locations around the country for on-site work
• Aircraft reports such as the Verified Opinion-of-Value Report with a signed certificate of value, and residual value reports, for cases where a full appraisal is not needed
• Legal advisory services: diminution of value assessments, expert witness testimony and litigation support in state and federal courts
• Aircraft repossession services for lenders, from loan document review and valuation to locating, recovering, storing and reselling the aircraft
• An API that connects business systems to VREF data

Data and team

The VREF database holds details on more than 800 aircraft models and tracks over 700,000 serial numbers. The company runs valuations on more than 20,000 aircraft each month and produces around 2,000 certified appraisals a year. Its staff includes 40 regional representatives, FAA airframe and powerplant technicians, IA holders and an in-house designated airworthiness representative. VREF is a member of the American Society of Appraisers, the International Society of Appraisers and ISTAT, and its website says it is the only aircraft valuation software platform recognised by the ASA. It also produces the podcast series "The Truth About the Aviation Market" and a learning centre with articles on aircraft types and ownership.
