AEPS Aviation English Private School

AEPS, the Aviation English Private School, tests and trains pilots and air traffic controllers in aviation English. It is based in Ghlin, Belgium, with a branch in France, one in Poland and a Pacific team in New Caledonia.

Its main product is the FCL.055 English language proficiency test, which follows EASA rules. AEPS also offers an ELP test for ICAO. The tests are for pilots of aeroplanes and helicopters who fly under visual or instrument flight rules, and for air traffic controllers. AEPS says its test suits private and professional aviation, with accurate levels and friendly, professional examiners. It adds that the test is accepted in many countries, and candidates can check whether their own authority accepts the certificate.

Candidates can take the test at home by video call. They need a modern computer, a webcam, headphones or earbuds with a microphone, a stable internet connection and a quiet room. No software needs to be installed. Examiners stay with the candidate and give the result at the end. Candidates who pass download their certificate and the documents their authority asks for.

On-site tests take place in an AEPS office or at a partner location. The listed places are Belgium, France and New Caledonia. A flying club can ask for a test at its own site if at least six candidates sign up and the club covers the examiner's travel and lodging costs.

AEPS runs scheduled sessions on set dates for both tests and courses. If no date fits, a candidate can order an on-demand session. On-demand sessions are held by video call only.

Preparatory courses help pilots get ready for the test. They come in packs with a set number of hours, with or without an instructor, and the pack includes the test. Online courses on its e-learning platform include Short Final, Long Final and Reading You Five, a radio communication course. VIP courses offer from 1 to 12 hours with instructors, 30 days of online access and one test.

AEPS France is a training body for foreign language learning in aviation. It also serves the aircraft maintenance sector with English tests and courses. It was certified Qualiopi in 2022. AEPS lists customers such as Air Austral, Air Caraibes, Air Caledonie and ASL Belgium.
