Velo X Aerospace
Velocitor X-1 single-seat personal eVTOL in development in Michigan
About Velo X Aerospace
Velo X Aerospace is a personal eVTOL developer based at 3001 W Airport Road in Hastings, Michigan, whose flagship Velocitor series begins with the Velocitor X-1, a single-seat personal electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft now open for reservations. Launched by Jeff Williams, Galen Geigley and Jake Meyerink and building on the legacy of Soaring Concepts Aerospace, the company draws on a manufacturing heritage of more than 2,000 delivered aircraft and states a mission of pioneering the next generation of eVTOL aircraft with freedom, safety and sustainability.
Velocitor X-1 design
- Intuitive flight controls with autonomous assistance so that anyone can fly with confidence, in assisted manual or fully autonomous modes; with GPS position sources the aircraft hovers in place when the controls are released
- Distributed electric propulsion with multiple propellers, motors, controllers and batteries, so that no single point of failure prevents a safe landing, described as triple redundant systems
- A ballistic recovery system that detects loss of control and deploys a parachute effective at altitudes as low as 50 feet, plus a safety cell chassis with reinforced structure, seat and four-point harness
- LIDAR obstacle warning and avoidance system (LOWAS) for real-time avoidance of power lines, trees and structures, and Garmin equipment shown among its partners
- Modular architectures intended to support cargo, tactical and specialised operations
Development
- Design work followed by sourcing of components, testing of every sourced part for durability and verified performance, and assembly of a first active prototype
- Tethered flight tests in the field producing data used to refine design and programming through multiple revisions, resulting in the final product design
- A first funding round secured, with plans for a full hardware-in-the-loop flight simulation
