About vastspace

Vast is a space company that is developing space stations and other space infrastructure. It describes its approach as step by step, hardware-rich and low cost. Its slogan is building next-generation space infrastructure.

Its first station is called Haven-1. The company says it is targeted to be the world's first commercial space station, and the launch is set for 2027. Haven-1 is now in the build phase. The team completed a fit check of the passive docking hardware, and the station has moved into the first phase of integration. Work on board includes installing thermal control system trays, control valves and sensors, and fitting wet trash containers.

Haven-2 is designed to succeed the International Space Station. The company also runs a Haven-1 Lab and offers a way to create a mission with Vast.

Vast builds many parts in-house. It makes its own laser retroreflector arrays. These reflect light back to spacecraft that visit Haven-1, so they can measure range and orientation during rendezvous and docking. It also develops a Hall thruster for its satellites. The design is based on technology licensed from the H10 thruster of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The company says recent tests show strong performance and endurance.

Vast has also moved into other areas. It offers high-power satellite buses that use its space station technology and the heritage of its Haven demo satellite. It has set up a lunar programs division that applies Haven flight experience to power, communications and habitats on the Moon.
