ST Airborne Systems AB
ST Airborne Systems is a Swedish maker of airborne surveillance systems for oil spill detection, search and rescue, border and maritime security.
About ST Airborne Systems AB
ST Airborne Systems is a Swedish company that makes airborne surveillance systems. The letters ST stand for Swedish Technologies. The company says it has more than 50 years of experience. Its main product is the MSS 8000 mission system, which it calls its next platform for airborne surveillance.
The company grew out of a request from the Swedish Coast Guard in the mid-1970s. The coast guard wanted a way to find oil spills in the Baltic Sea. The Swedish Space Corporation built a side-looking airborne radar, or SLAR, in 1976. A SLAR scans wide sea areas from an aircraft. In 2014, the business became independent as ST Airborne Systems.
Its systems support environmental monitoring, coast guard work, maritime security and wildfire watch. The site lists oil spill and chemical discharge detection, illegal fishing detection, vessel traffic monitoring, search and rescue, border surveillance, monitoring of exclusive economic zones and flood monitoring. The systems give decision makers a live picture of what is happening.
The about page records the early projects. The first integrated system flew on a Cessna 402 C for the Swedish Coast Guard. The first export delivery went to Rijkswaterstaat in the Netherlands. Later, the company fitted CASA 212 aircraft for the Swedish Coast Guard. It then worked with the Portuguese Air Force on fisheries watch.
It also worked with the United States Coast Guard on ice patrol and oil spill detection, which led to the MSS 5000 generation. After 2014, its first stand-alone project fitted an aircraft with the MSS 7000 for the Estonian Police and Border Guard.
Customer comments on the site come from Transport Canada and the Finnish Border Guard. The Finnish unit calls its MSS 6000 project one of its most successful. The site also lists a number of systems delivered, countries served, offices and generations of MSS systems.
The company attends trade events such as Oil Spill India in New Delhi. It also took part in a Swedish business delegation to Indonesia in 2026. The website has pages for products, services, news, the company's story and contact details.
