Space Women Alliance

The Space Women Alliance, known as SWAN, is a volunteer-led association that aims to empower women in the space sector. Its website says it launched in October 2024 and was founded by professionals from Eutelsat, CNES and Cosmos for Humanity. It cites that for the past 30 years women have represented only around 20 percent of the space workforce, with barely one in ten leadership roles, and says it wants to change that status quo.

Programmes

• SWANRise, a seven-month mentorship and leadership development programme for women with 5 to 10 years of experience in male-dominated industries, combining mentoring, coaching and peer learning
• A project-based mentorship of about three months, and a programme named SWANElevate that appears on the contacts page
• A global talent pool showcasing women in space
• An events hub listing industry conferences, networking meetups and workshops where the team can be met

Mission and values

The association describes goals of developing skills through mentorship, ensuring a fair presence in events and decisions, engaging everyone in supporting gender equity, and cultivating an inclusive and positive community. It describes itself as a collective of pro bono space professionals who value every voice, and it brings together men and women to shape a more diverse space sector.
