Sierra Aero

Sierra Aero LLC is a full service maintenance shop at Truckee Tahoe Airport (KTRK) in Truckee, California, just north of Lake Tahoe. It was founded in early 2012 in the old Hangar 2 building and moved into the larger Hangar 1 in 2013. It became an Authorized Cirrus Service Center in 2016, and in 2019 it moved its office into the new admin building, which freed up shop floor space.

Services

Sierra Aero services most local and transient single engine piston aircraft. It is a Cirrus parts distributor, and its Cirrus factory-trained staff are also Cirrus Garmin trained. Services include:

• Annual inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, troubleshooting and AOG support
• Oil and tire changes and ADS-B compliance
• Oxygen, nitrogen and engine pre-heat service
• Overhaul and replacement coordination with engine and propeller shops

The posted labor rate is $190 per hour, and all mechanics and inspectors are on the FAA drug testing program.

Aircraft and avionics

The company holds an FAA Part 145 limited repair station certificate (5IER221D) for avionics work, including 24-month FAR 91.411 and 91.413 pitot-static and transponder checks. It is a dealer for Garmin, Trig and Appareo and builds custom instrument panels in house.

Flight training

Since 2020 Sierra Aero has worked with Mountain Lion Aviation, a Cirrus Training Center and charter operator. Independent instructors offer flight training at Truckee, and the company rents aircraft for training.
