About Pilotsafety

PilotSafety.org is the training business of Gary (GPS) Reeves, the 2019 FAA National Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year, an honour the site notes has been given to fewer than 40 instructors. Nicknamed GPS, which stands for Guy in the Pink Shirt, Reeves specialises in teaching single-pilot IFR using Garmin and Avidyne avionics, autopilots and the ForeFlight iPad EFB, with more than 20 years and over 8,500 hours of real-world IFR instruction in every US state and Class B airspace and internationally from Alaska to Australia. He is a lead representative of the FAA Safety Team and the only national training provider for several avionics manufacturers, including Avidyne. The site states that he has trained private owners, fleets, military, law enforcement and Part 135 operators on aircraft from Cessna 152s and 172s to Beech 1900s, CJ2 light jets, AS350 and Agusta helicopters and the US Coast Guard.

Training programmes

  • 3-Day Garmin or Avidyne IFR Mastery, Not Minimums training: about 20 hours of book and video pre-study, 8 to 10 hours of in-person ground training and two full days of advanced flight training in the client's own aircraft, covering the autopilot, display, GPS and iPad for single-pilot IFR
  • Mastery video training for Garmin G430 and G530, GPS 175, GNC 355 and GNX 375, GTN series and G1000, for Avidyne systems, for autopilots and for ForeFlight, built on real in-flight footage and pro tips rather than theory
  • Fleet training, including train-the-trainer programmes, pilot training and customised video courses for operators such as the US Coast Guard, Houston Police Department and Part 135 and 141 fleets
  • Free membership for more than 30,000 pilots with downloads, videos, advance notice of classes and discounts, plus a blog, a book and CFI pro tips
