Palantir
Data integration and AI operating systems for defence and enterprise
About Palantir
Palantir Technologies builds and deploys software platforms that serve as central operating systems for its customers, helping organisations integrate their data, decisions and operations. The company was founded in 2003 after its founders concluded that available products were too rigid for novel problems, custom systems took too long to deploy, automated approaches failed against adaptive adversaries and all-or-nothing access controls forced a trade-off between collaboration and security. Palantir's platforms are used across the public, private and non-profit sectors, including defence and healthcare.
Platforms
- Palantir AIP: activates large language models and other AI on a customer's private network under full control
- Palantir Foundry: an ontology-powered operating system for the enterprise that connects data, analytic and operational systems in real time, built and tested in crises
- Palantir Gotham: a commercially available, AI-ready operating system for global decision making, used by operators across roles and domains
- Palantir Apollo: an operating system for continuous delivery that deploys software across all environments, from the back of a Humvee to the hull of a submarine
Approach
Palantir describes itself as a company of engineers rather than academics, with teams combining distributed systems infrastructure, big data processing, user experience design and data science. It builds platforms for integrating, managing and securing data with applications for human-driven, machine-assisted analysis, so users can ask complex questions without query languages or statistical modelling. Engineers work in the field with customers to deploy products, integrate data and produce operational results in weeks. The company states that it builds privacy-protective capabilities into its products and works with advocacy groups and policymakers on responsible use. Uses cited on the site include investigations into human trafficking and financial crime, humanitarian disaster response, public health tracking and information security.
