Optifly

Optifly is an airline scheduling operating system that combines an optimisation engine, a planning suite, scheduling, slot management and embedded artificial intelligence on one data and constraint model. The company says airlines can build schedules up to ten times faster and up to ten percent more profitably, and that its software is used by some of the world's largest airlines. Products can be deployed individually or together as the Optifly Schedule Operating System.

Optifly states that airlines using the system typically see higher aircraft utilisation, lower fuel cost through better aircraft allocation, schedule adjustments in minutes rather than weeks, schedules built in minutes or hours rather than weeks or months, faster scenario testing and more robust schedules that keep their value through a season. It notes that gains vary with an airline's appetite for change, network structure and fleet mix.

Why it was built

The company argues that most airline planning systems are scheduling-led tools with generic solvers added on, which struggle with scale, constraint density and continuous change, so planners fall back on spreadsheets. By embedding optimisation across the whole schedule life cycle, Optifly aims to make improvements compound rather than erode as conditions change.
