Optec

Optec S.p.A. is an Italian company that designs, develops and produces optical and optoelectronic systems. According to its website it was founded in 1985, began by supplying only lenses, and now offers complete integrated systems so that it can optimise the performance of the whole system rather than single components. It is based in Parabiago, near Milan, with further sites in Busto Garolfo, and a related company, Optec America, in Chatsworth, California.

Space heritage

The site highlights a long list of space missions and instruments. It names the METIS instrument on the European Space Agency Solar Orbiter probe, the JUICE mission to Jupiter's icy moons, which launched on 14 April 2023, and LICIACube, a six-unit CubeSat of the Italian Space Agency. Other projects include the ARGOMOON microsatellite, the NEMO-HD multispectral Earth observation microsatellite, the EAGLET 1 nano-satellite prototype launched on 3 December 2018, and the German Spacelab D-2 mission carried by Space Shuttle Columbia in April 1993.

Quality

Optec reports certification to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001, and refers to military specifications and standards and to European Cooperation for Space Standardization requirements. Its terms state a 12 month warranty on products and publish a return material authorisation procedure.
