DCUBED
Space release actuators, solar arrays and deployables
About DCUBED
Dcubed is a German NewSpace company. It develops and manufactures release actuators, mechanisms and deployable structures for space applications. The company says it makes space engineering easy and offers durable and affordable space hardware.
Its hold-down release mechanisms secure delicate equipment during launch and release it on orbit. The devices can be actuated and reset many times. Release nuts are compact shape memory release actuators for axial pre-load applications. Pin pullers are easy to use and highly resettable, and they suit shear-load applications.
Its solar arrays include turnkey power generation subsystems with launch lock, substrate and solar cells. Product lines include origami, rigid-deployable and body-mounted solar arrays. The company is also developing in-space manufacturing for solar arrays, which it describes as an ISM solar array.
The company says its products use patented shape memory materials and proprietary origami structures. It says its products are 100% made in Germany and can be bought through an e-commerce purchase and shipping process. The site gives shipping times from 6 days to 6 months, depending on the product.
Customers quoted on the site include HawkEye 360, Skyroot Aerospace, and Atomos Space. Skyroot says it has worked with Dcubed since 2022 on its Vikram-1 mission. The site also shows logos of partners including NASA, DLR, Astroscale, Spire and Astrobotic.
The company was founded in 2018, starting with a 3D printer and a small team. It became Deployables Cubed GmbH in December 2019, and its first actuators shipped to MIT Haystack Observatory. It won ESA development contracts, closed a Series A round in 2024, and opened Dcubed USA in Denver the same year.
The team grew to more than 30 employees in 2023, and the company expanded its production floor to over 1000 square meters. In 2024, ISM material samples were launched to the ISS on SpaceX CRS-31. The company supplies space exploration customers in 15 countries across 4 continents.
