Celestia Aerospace
Airborne launch for nanosatellites and turnkey space services
About Celestia Aerospace
Celestia Aerospace offers turnkey solutions for bringing businesses to space. It works with customers at every stage, from market assessment to data collection. The company is based in Barcelona, Spain.
Its signature product is the Sagittarius Airborne Launch System, or SALS. It combines a MiG-29UB military jet with a two or three stage rocket to deliver payloads to suborbital flight or to orbit. The company describes SALS as a tested system.
The Archer 1 is the MiG-29UB jet, capable of supersonic flight with an operational ceiling of 20 kilometres. Space Arrow SM is a two-stage light rocket that gives 10 minutes of microgravity in a suborbital parabola. Space Arrow CM is a three-stage heavy rocket that can deliver up to 16 kg to low Earth orbit.
The launch system allows launches of as few as 4 nanosatellites and up to 16 in a single operation. The site says this cuts planning time for multi-customer operations and offers just-in-time launch solutions at very competitive prices.
To save time and cost, Celestia works with proprietary nanosatellite standards. BioPharmaSat suits scientific payloads, SemicondSat suits semiconductor applications, TestSat supports component certification, and ClusterSat is for constellations. The company builds nanosatellites in Barcelona, with a full test phase on site and an alliance with BarcelonaTech NanoSatLab.
Once a nanosatellite is in orbit, Celestia can help build a receiving station and manage data collection over the satellite's life. The customer receives the data on its own computer, without further action on the nanosatellite.
The company says its team has extensive experience in nanosatellite projects that are already in orbit. Its advisers include former leaders of the International Space University and a nanosatellite design expert. In 2023 the company announced a new headquarters and production plant in Sabadell.
