About Nexus234
Nexus234 is an innovation district in Manassas, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. It supports the full innovation cycle, from early research to commercialization and advanced manufacturing.
The district was launched in July 2025 as Northern Virginia's first official innovation district. It builds on nearly 30 years of investment by George Mason University, Prince William County and the City of Manassas. All three partners power the district.
Nexus234 brings together the people, spaces and support that companies need to move a technology from discovery to delivery. It helps companies start, locate and grow more quickly. Startups, established companies and researchers work together using shared labs, equipment and expertise to develop and test new ideas.
Companies and researchers can work with George Mason to use advanced laboratories, specialized equipment and faculty expertise for research and technology development. Startups and growing companies can license early-stage technologies developed at the university to build new products and services. Most areas of research are available.
Organizations can also collaborate with university faculty and staff. The university offers shared study design, experienced professionals, mentorship and research support across its campuses.
Workforce programs are a core part of the district. Students gain paid internships, applied learning and training programs built with industry partners. Professionals can build skills and grow their careers.
Nexus234 also runs networking and community events. These help researchers, companies and entrepreneurs meet funders, mentors and other startups. Its programs include Soft Landing and a Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and it lists start-up space, funding and incentives and R&D infrastructure among its advantages.
The district describes itself as an urbanized research park in a suburban setting, where high-tech companies sit near restaurants, shops and homes. It is a member of the Association of University Research Parks.
