About AVL
AVL is a mobility technology company from Austria. It offers engineering, simulation and testing for vehicles, energy systems and other fields. It works in more than 30 countries around the world.
AVL organises its work in three business areas. Engineering covers e-mobility, industrial energy, automated and connected mobility, vehicle engineering and hybrid propulsion. Simulation Solutions offers software and cloud tools. Testing Solutions supplies test systems and services. The company also offers consulting services and a motorsport unit called RACETECH.
In engineering, AVL develops electric drivelines, batteries and fuel cells. It also works on electrolysis systems, fuel cell power generation and the wider energy system around them. Its vehicle work includes vehicle development, systems integration, thermal management and HVAC. On the propulsion side, it develops electrified combustion engines and works on combustion efficiency.
In simulation, AVL sells software for powertrains, vehicle dynamics, fluid flow, battery and fuel cell models, and driving scenarios. A cloud service called SIMcloud lets customers run simulation software online. Its testing range covers batteries, electric motors, axles, power electronics, thermal tests, noise and vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility. It also tests hydrogen equipment such as electrolysers and fuel cells. For automated driving, it offers tools for assistance systems and driving data analysis. Engine and hybrid testing, emission and energy certification and alternative fuel tests are on offer as well.
Customer services help keep test equipment available and its data reliable over its whole life. For simulation users, AVL provides software support, training and validation. The company says its worldwide network of experts keeps help close to customers.
AVL serves many industries. They include passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two and three-wheelers, off-road machines, motorsport, rail, marine, energy, aviation, and security and defence. AVL runs engineering centres, tech centres, application centres, support hubs and a proving ground across its locations. One of them, the AVL Tech Center Steyr, opened in April 2025.
